Your Anaesthetist

Dr Harry Akerman MBBS FRCA

Harry studied medicine in London qualifying in 1997. His post graduate training has taken him from London to Australia and from New Zealand to Bath before spending the final five years of his anaesthetic training at the Wessex School of Anaesthesia. Harry became a fellow of the Royal College of Anaesthetists in 2005 and has been a Consultant at University Hospital Southampton since 2008. His sub specialty interest is in ultrasound guided regional anaesthesia for which he is the clinical lead at University Hospital Southampton. This relatively new technique enables him to use the latest technology to provide his patients with the best quality post operative pain relief.

Harry is married to Catherine and has 3 daughters. He is a keen sportsman who still regularly plays cricket, fives, golf, and tennis. This year much to Catherine’s dismay he has joined thousands of other middle aged men in taking up road cycling… and all that that involves!
